Soccer Star David Beckham Comes to Atlanta (but only to file suit)

Former soccer star, and current owner of Inter Miami CF, David Beckham, has brought suit in the Northern District of Georgia for trademark infringement against a long list of various foreign entities doing business in the United States.  Plaintiff DB Ventures, Ltd., holds David Beckham’s intellectual property rights.  Mr. Beckham claims to own numerous federal trademark registrations, including BECKHAM, DAVID BECKHAM, BEYOND, DAVID BECKHAM INSTINCT, the DVB Design logo, and the DB David Beckham Design logo.  Dkt. 1 at 9.  Plaintiff also asserts the marks are used in connection with a wide variety of consumer products, such as clothing, jerseys, perfume, toys, and jewelry.

According to the Complaint, each Defendant sources, advertises, and sells products using the Plaintiff’s marks.  Further, the Complaint alleges the Defendants are working together to knowingly and willfully sell these infringing goods. The Complaint brings two counts for infringement under the Lanham Act, including false designation of origin, and one count of common law trademark infringement.  The case has been assigned to Judge Eleanor Ross.
