Photographer Files Copyright Suit Against Media Company

Kaplan v. NRIpulse Media Inc. , Civil Action No. 1:23-cv-03085-LMM (N.D. Ga., July 12, 2023)

A photographer has filed suit in the Northern District of Georgia for copyright infringement.

The photograph at issue depicts Allasheed Allah, perpetrator of a hate crime in a New York subway, being escorted by NYPD. Dkt. 1 at ¶ 2. According to the Complaint, Defendant NRImpluse Media Inc. “displayed the Photograph on the Website as part of an on-line story at URL https://nripulse.com/man-charged-with-hate-crime-for-assaulting-indian-american-woman/.” Id. at ¶ 23. In response to the Infringement, Plaintiff allegedly attempted to contact Defendant through email, physical mail, and by telephone, but received no response. Id. at ¶ 29.

Plaintiff brings one count of direct copyright infringement.

The case has been assigned to Judge Leigh Martin May.
