Electronics Manufacturer Hisense Seeks Preemptive Action in Northern District to Resolve Patent Dispute with Brightplus Ventures

Hisense USA Corporation v. Brightplus Ventures LLC, Civil Action No. 1:22-cv-02774-TCB (N.D. Ga.)

Georgia-based electronics manufacturer Hisense USA has taken the offensive in a patent dispute with Brightplus Ventures LLC. On July 14, 2022, Hisense filed a claim in U.S. District Court seeking a declaratory judgment that the company’s solid state lighting system products (including its televisions) do not infringe nine Brightplus patents .

In the complaint, Hisense says it is taking this action because Brightplus has contacted the company to allege infringement of numerous patents. The plaintiffs note that Brightplus has filed similar lawsuits in the Eastern District of Texas against other companies shortly after notifying them of an alleged patent infringement, leading Hisense’s legal team to assume that they may be targeted with such a lawsuit.

Hisense has requested a jury trial.
