Law Firm Entangled in Trade Secret Dispute with Service Providers

Amicus, LLC v. Johnson & Vines PLLC et al., Civil Action No. 4:23-cv-00154-RSB-CLR (N.D. Ga., June 9, 2023)

Plaintiff Amicus, LLC, doing business as “Broughton Partners,” brought suit in the Southern District of Georgia for misappropriation of trade secrets and civil conspiracy. According to the Complaint, Plaintiff “is a legal marketing company that helps law firms vet and obtain leads for mass tort and other legal cases.” Complaint, ¶ 11. Plaintiff maintains a proprietary database of leads for potential tort plaintiffs. According to the Complaint, a former member and manager of Broughton Partners misappropriated a list of leads related to potential talcum powder plaintiffs. Id. at ¶¶ 31-32. The former manager allegedly emailed the list to the other Defendants accompanied by the text, “Do not tell anyone that I sent this to you and DO NOT SHARE THIS. I will get into a lot of trouble.” Id. at ¶ 37.

The Complaint brings a count of trade secret misappropriation federal and Georgia law, one count of civil conspiracy, and one count of breach of contract.

This case has been assigned to Judge R. Stan Baker.
